Used Continental Conti-Motion Front Tire (120/17ZR17, $10)

Started Oct 1, 2011 0 Replies

I bought a set of Conti-Motions and they worked fine for sporty street riding in WV and OH. The rear was down to cords in just under 2500 miles (my KTM eats rear tires). I always replace tires in…Continue

I went to something like that a couple times in years past. Not sure if it's the same promoter or not. Bunch of choppers on display. Handful of local dealers with bikes. Some vendors with cheap cruiser leather/gear. Meh... I guess it's…

This could be a replacement for my KTM in a couple years. The V2 Tuono was high on my short list when I bought the KTM.

2011 "Year in Review" Video

2011 was a somewhat slow year for me as riding goes, but I did manage to go on several good trips. I managed just over 10K twisty miles last year which is well down from the 15K - 18K I normally do. The 950 was down for maintenance from Jan thru mid-April, then I had a good couple months with long weekend trips for the Burger Run, the Potomac Highlands meet, the ADVrider BYOB in Marlinton, and then my own BYOB Reprise because the roads are so good. Then I let work eat my life and barely rode in…See More

There is no shortage of dirt roads (mostly easy, some interesting) in the Seven Springs area. A few bridges are technically "out" but you can ride around the signs to cross them. Seven Springs will be open soon which means cutting across…

219 is really good from Huttonsville (jct 250) south to (almost) Lewisburg. There are some great sections there. 250 is another winner from jct 219 all the way east to (almost) 42. Scenic sweepers alternate with twisty mountain sections. Good stuff.…

Shiftless in Seneca: STN Region 6 Campout

My big plan for the Region 6 campout at Seneca Rocks was to ride the KTM 530 EXC I bought from R Doug back on Labor Day weekend. I figured this would be an awesome chance to ride our "Blackwater 400" route plus do a day of dual-sport riding around Seneca. But I've been very busy lately and don't have the 530 sorted out enough to want to chance a 3-day ride a long ways from home. I have spent almost no time riding it, and still had to install a jet kit. I didn't want to take an unknown quantity…See More

Looks like you had a great trip. A friend and I did a trip in mid Sept hitting most of these roads. We have been down that way many times but it was also one of our best ones. We had 6 days so we went farther south staying in Franklin NC.  Then…

You can do a fine long weekend (3 days) to the The Snake by heading south thru WV to Marion, then hit the Snake/Roan Mtn/BRP/etc on day 2, and return home via 16 on day 3. Those are some long days (400+ miles), but the riding and scenery are great.…

Carpe Diem: Indian Summer in Appalachia

After a good start to the riding season, my job ate my life in July and August. It didn't help that my wife and I were trying to get our house ready to sell at the same time. I really wanted to do a short trip to the southeast and ride some of my favorite roads, so I planned on extending my ESTN ride to include The Snake, etc. But work ate my life. Again. Had a fine time at ESTN though.Days are getting shorter, leaves are changing, and the end of riding season is on the horizon. What's this? A…See More

I bought a set of Conti-Motions and they worked fine for sporty street riding in WV and OH. The rear was down to cords in just under 2500 miles (my KTM eats rear tires). I always replace tires in sets. This tire looks too good to just pitch. Buy my half-used front (120/70ZR17) for only $10... I live in Murrysville and work in Cranberry. ESTN: Marietta, OH

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 8:45pm 0 Comments

Work pretty much ate my life in July and August, so I was really looking forward to ESTN (Sport-Touring.net Eastern rally) in Marietta, OH. As it turned out, I would be returning from a business trip to Switzerland on Thursday night and leaving for ESTN on Friday morning, jet-lagged or not.

I left early Friday morning and met my friend Scott in Bruceton Mills, WV. Scott relocated to Morgantown this summer, so this was a chance to show him some of central/western WV finest…
